Effective leadership is vital to every organization. It can determine success versus failure, growth versus loss, enthusiasm versus indifference, and satisfaction versus discontent. It can be the deciding factor between an efficient, fully staffed department or one struggling to stay afloat.

Because differing leadership styles are so impactful on officers’ everyday lives, this issue of the FBI Law Enforcement Bulletin focuses on ways leaders can discover and implement factors that motivate their personnel, stay visible even when everything runs smoothly, serve their employees by authentically developing and supporting them personally and professionally, and remain aware of and resolve existing challenges their personnel face.

We hope these articles encourage law enforcement leaders to examine their current leadership practices and their effectiveness in creating a thriving workplace.
