Telemetry
Diagnostics that help, not data that follows
Zed collects anonymous diagnostics and usage data to help us understand how the editor is used and where issues arise.
Read DocumentationMinimal and respectful
We collect diagnostics and usage data to improve Zed. It's anonymous if you're logged out, and linked to your account only when you're signed in.
Easy to disable
You're in control. Telemetry is on to help us improve Zed, but turning it off is just a toggle away.
Configure telemetry settings→Local-first architecture
Your code and settings remain on your machine.
AI & your code
Your code stays yours
Zed's AI tools are designed to respect your content and your consent.
Read DocumentationExplicit opt-in
AI feedback sharing requires an explicit rating. Sharing once grants no future permissions — each share is its own action.
How ratings work→No persistent storage
Your code and prompts are discarded after each request. They're never used to train or evaluate AI models.
Zero retention
Anthropic, Google, OpenAI, and xAI all have contractual zero-retention agreements with Zed — your queries are discarded after processing, never used for training.
See provider guarantees→Edit Prediction training is opt-in
Edit Prediction can optionally share data to improve the model, but only for open-sourced code under permissive licenses — and only if you explicitly opt in.
How to opt in→You own your AI outputs
Zed irrevocably assigns any rights it may hold in AI-generated output to you.
Authentication & user data
You're in control
You decide what to share and when. No sign-up walls, no forced logins.
View Privacy PolicySign-in is optional
You can use the editor anonymously, forever.
Private by design
If you choose to sign in, we only use minimal account metadata. No behavioral profiling or ad tracking.
Your data rights, everywhere
Regardless of where you live, you can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your data by emailing [email protected].
